With the league in the balance, Team BTC’s Men’s 3 Footballers had to make the recent fixture against Weymouth College count to put themselves back in the mix this season.

The travelling side were well-organised and drilled. Team BTC started brightly, playing through the thirds with Ellis Way creating some nice chances. Captain Zak Rickards-Tilley put the home team in front with a cool finish into an area commonly known as “top bins”. The false sense of security threw the Devy lads off as they got hit with a sucker punch as Weymouth broke at speed and struck two goals in quick succession. Somehow the home team found themselves 2-1 down and low on confidence. Weymouth started to control the fixture as the we were slow in possession and struggled to control the midfield.

In the second half, Harrison Hambly switched the number 1 jersey for the number 9, and his tireless running paid off as he put pressure on the Weymouth defence. Stand-in keeper Cam Richardson played a long pass that was flicked on for Ellis Way to compose himself for a side footed finish. 2-2. Game on.

Neither side were able to make their chances count and the game was still in the balance with 15 minutes left. Midfield maestro Jake Brice finished a creative Di Canio effort into the corner sending the home fans into pandemonium. With the wind in their sails, Team BTC got a fourth, with Harrison’s running paying off as he slotted home from close range. With minutes left, Weymouth got their third goal as they beat the offside trap to neatly finish a 1-on-1.

The Men’s 3’s saw out the result with a 4-3 victory.

The team manager Gareth Lewis said

I couldn’t be happier with the players’ character. We were missing something in the first half, but grit and determination paired with a little bit of Devy magic in the second half proved to be enough. It was a great game. Let’s hope it’s not too late for a title push.
