The Team BTC Men’s 2 Football team took the trip down to face Exeter College 2s recently.

Key 2s players were called up to represent the 1s and were heavily involved in their success over Coleg Y Cymoedd. Opportunities for other players to play in different positions were provided and they adapted well to this.

From the kick-off, Team BTC struggled to find their rhythm and maintain the ball, which led to an early penalty for Exeter. Goal keeper Charlie Hawkings pulled off an amazing save to keep the scoreline.

Exeter continued to probe and, after a good defensive effort from BTC, they eventually found the net. Team BTC looked a threat on the counter-attack with a few half chances, however it was Exeter who found their second to double their lead. Before half time, Pete Durston was able to get one back from a Ben Jackson set piece to keep the contest alive, making it 2-1.

In the second half, a few changes from Team BTC shifted the game’s momentum, creating numerous chances. Leo James was getting plenty of space on the left flank and it looked set for an equaliser. Leo James was able to find Tom Stone free at the back post, but his effort was denied by the woodwork! After this dominant period of 15 minutes, BTC paid the price of not taking their chances, and Exeter stretched their lead back. The game finished 3-1 to Exeter 2s.

Men’s and Women’s Football are both being offered as Sport Development Days this year. If you are in year 10 or 11 at school and would like to take part, visit our Sport Development Days page to find out more and register for free.
