Team BTC 3 – 1 Richard Huish College

As the league title lay in the balance, Team BTC Men’s 3s knew that only a win over Richard Huish 1s team would secure the 2022 Cat 3 league title. After a close game earlier in the season, both sides knew this would not be a one-sided affair.

The game started very scrappy, with Richard Huish taking control of the midfield showing more willingness to make forward runs. Team BTC were nervous and struggling to find their passing football. As the game continued, the Team BTC Men’s 3 strikers continued their form by combining well with Jaden Sigobodhla and Harrison Hambly linking well and moving their defence around. Eventually a poorly cleared corner was turned in by Richard Huish as the pressure mounted on the league leaders.

At 1-0 down, captain Zak Rickards-Tilley had to steady the troops and lead by example as Team BTC started getting more possession and finding gaps. With chances falling to Harrison Hambly and Jaden Sigobodhla, it was Jaden who finally put the team in level before the half time whistle.

At 1-1, Team BTC were well in the game and needed to find a little bit of quality in the final third to give them the advantage. As the second half started, Cam Richardson started commanding the midfield and threading some nice forward passes. Eventually Harrison Hambly found himself through on goal but unselfishly played a weighted pass into the path of Jaden Sigobodhla, who finished into the open net. The goal was celebrated with a textbook knee slide in front of the travelling fans.

Now it was time for Team BTC to hold their nerve. Charlie White and Sammy Martin controlled the back line, keeping any Richard Huish attacks at bay. In the final moments, a corner from Tyler Jenkins was finished by Harrison Hambly with a glancing header. At 3-1 with minutes left, the players were able to see out the result meaning that Team BTC are the 2022 Cat 3 champions.

Kitman Jonny Hunt shed tears of pride, saying “This is the happiest moment of my life.”

Former COTY Gareth Lewis said “It’s been a fantastic season and surely puts the men’s 3’s into poll position to win the Team BTC Team of the Year 2022 at the forthcoming awards”

Jadon Sigobodhla was voted Player of the Match for his two goals and tireless running throughout the game.
