T Level courses at Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) are going from strength to strength, providing students with exceptional opportunities to learn and grow in a supportive environment.
Recently, students studying the Health T Level had the pleasure of meeting with Helen Stapleton, Associate Director of Workforce Strategy at NHS Somerset Integrated Care, and Hannah Charlton, Early Careers & Apprenticeship Lead at Somerset Care, to discuss their course and tour the newly renovated Health and Early Years building at the Taunton campus.
The bespoke facilities have been designed with the latest technology and equipment, giving students access to a replica hospital ward complete with medical mannequins and equipment for practising their skills. T Level Early Years students have access to a nursery area where they host children from the local nursery for stay and play sessions.
Helen Stapleton said,
I am delighted to see these fantastic T Level facilities in action, meet some of the students and hear about their commitment and motivation to follow careers in health and care. I really believe this programme will have a big positive impact on our future healthcare in Somerset.
Hannah Charlton said,
It was wonderful to visit the fantastic new space for Health and Early Years, and speak with some of the students about their experiences. I was really impressed with the practical aspects of the T Level programme and how they are reflected in the skills and knowledge students ably demonstrate. At Somerset Care, we are excited to start working in partnership with BTC to offer placement and employment opportunities in the months and years ahead, for our health and social care leaders of tomorrow.
Flo, who is studying the Health T Level and hoping to become a paramedic, spoke about the course,
I love this course. I started A Levels at a different Sixth Form and soon realised it wasn’t for me. I really enjoy the work placement element at Musgrove Park Hospital; I have learnt so much which I am able to transfer back into my course.
Student, Evie, who is on the geriatric ward, shares,
I really enjoy being on the wards. If I notice that someone hasn’t had many visitors, I make an effort to take the time to talk to them. I really love it and it’s made me more determined to follow a career in nursing.
Louise Rowley, Vice Principal of Bridgwater & Taunton College said,
We were thrilled to unveil our new Health and Early Years building. This investment demonstrates our commitment to providing our students with the best possible education and training to support their future careers.
Sam Reilly, Assistant Principal, added,
Students are able to learn in a replica environment, honing their skills before they undertake their work placements. The learning they have had in this setting is invaluable, and really comes to life in their work placements, but also back at College, as you can see how much they have progressed and learnt from their practical work. It’s wonderful to see how much they benefit.
