BTC is proud to host ‘Moving Up’ evenings that bring together employers, organisations and students to discuss potential pathways for their collective futures.

The event was created to promote and share opportunities for young people with Special educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties.

Local special schools, mainstream schools and our current Foundation Learning students were invited to ensure parents, carers and students were able to gain further information about options for their next steps.

The event promoted BTC Foundation Learning courses, Supported Employment programmes and organisations that run provisions for young people with SEND and/or SEMH after they finish their educational journey.

BTC held Supported Employment talks at both evenings that shared information regarding their Project Search Supported Internship at Musgrove Hospital, the Hinkley Point C Supported Traineeship, and Apprenticeship Support and Knowledge (ASK).

Lorna Whitford, Head of Foundation Learning, said,

The buzz in the room at both our Taunton and Bridgwater events was infectious. Parents commented on how they would have never known about all the options without events like this one. I am immensely proud of the team and the growing partnerships that are enabling BTC to have a central role in Somerset to support ambitious progression for young people with SEND and/or SEMH.

Feedback from the event was positive, with one parent stating that the Support Employment talk from Hinkley Point C was particularly good.

Parents and carers were able to take a copy of BTC’s new Foundation Learning prospectus, which provides insight into the courses, facilities and curriculum available to both future and existing students.
