Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) welcomed students from several local schools for an Art & Design summer school programme that revolved around the exploration of individual creativity, fostering new friendships, and how to get involved with a plethora of artistic mediums.

Taking place on the Bridgwater campus, the exciting two-day experience was appreciated by a selection of Year 10 and 11 students who were given the opportunity to experience a wide range of artistic disciplines with expert tutelage.

The Fashion Business and Textiles team introduced the excited pupils to the world of fashion design, garment construction and thrilling techniques of surface patterns, such as print and embroidery.

The Art, Design & Photography team covered many formats, from traditional art such as painting and illustration, to emerging digital art practices and graphic design.

Finally, the Animation segment of the Art & Design summer school enabled the class to work in tandem to create an impressive stop-motion production.

It was a pleasure to host such an array of talented individuals who were keen to get stuck into a range of creative projects. Their hard work and perseverance across the fast-track programme should be applauded.

A huge thank you to the BTC team for supporting and making this possible. It has been a fantastic opportunity to provide this summer school programme, and to offer interested students a position on one of our Creative Arts courses without the need of a relevant GCSE qualification, subject to their overall grades.

At the end of the last session, students complied all their individual and group work into an impressive exhibition; one that parents, carers, family, and friends will be invited to explore later this year.
