Men’s Football
BTC took a mixed squad of 1st and 2nd team players to the AOC South West Regionals due to the emphatic FA Youth Cup win the night before from our U18’s.
They got off with the perfect start beating Swindon College 3-0 Afonso Almeida scoring a hat trick.
The next game was against Yeovil who BTC would later meet in the final, with defences on top, this game ended in a draw.
The final group game BTC defeated Truro 1-0 with Afonso scoring his 4th goal of the day. This meant BTC topped their group going into the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals BTC met R.Huish and after a tense game Ryan Hibbert scored in ET to send BTC into the final vs Yeovil.
The final was a very nervy game with neither team wanting to make the first mistake, with chances at both ends, it was Tom Symonds who scored the only goal BTC to win the South West Regionals. An incredible achievement from the team, going undefeated through the day and not even conceding one goal.
Jamie Laird (Team BTC Manager) said, “It’s been an incredible 24 hours for our BTC Men’s football programme, with getting through to the FA Youth Cup First round on the Tuesday evening and then going onto become champions in the AOC South West Regionals. In the past 6 years we have now won the SW Regionals 3 times and finished runners up 3 times. The team will now progress to the AOC National Championships held at Nottingham University next April, where they will represent the South West and try to become National Champions like our Women’s football team did in April this year.”
