The Crockers Centre at Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) is overjoyed to have been awarded the Commissioners Coin for Services to the Community and Improving Safety by Mark Shelford, Police and Crime Commissioner.
The Crockers Centre meets the academic, social, emotional and mental health needs of young people aged 16-19yrs, in our local community, many of whom, have been out of education for a significant amount of time.
Re-engagement, community participation and employment, are the aspiration and intended destination for all young people. A practical and engaging curriculum underpins the development of employability skills, resilience, English and Maths as well as other skills needed to engage in a productive, healthy and safe adult life.
The Police and Crime Commissioner visited the Crockers Centre at BTC’s Cannington Campus, he met staff and students and saw how the students were progressing within the environment. He sent the team a letter recognising all the hard work put in, and the unwavering commitment they offer to their students.
He wrote:
“I had time to reflect on what you (BTC) do, how you do it and the amazing results you achieve. Enclosed is a small token of my gratitude to you and your team. A Commissioners Coin for services to a Community of Avon and Somerset.”
Becc Baker, Strategic Lead for SEMH, said:
“We are delighted to have received this prestigious award from the police and crime commissioner. Improving the life opportunities for the young people of our local community is at the forefront of everything we do. I have an incredible, highly skilled staff team who go over and above every day to ensure we achieve our ambition of employment and further education opportunities for all our young people and to transform lives. I am confident that the relationship we now have with the police and crime commissioner will continue to develop so that we can work together to look at effective and sustainable interventions to improve the safety and life opportunities for young people in the local community. It’s so positive to see the impact staff and students can have on future police engagement with young people.”
Being one of eight to have been awarded this recognition, BTC are honoured to have been selected for this achievement and are looking forward to what the future may bring at Crockers.
