Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) T Level Education & Early Years students were thrilled to welcome employers from six local nursery settings to the dedicated programme workroom at the Taunton campus.

Educators from Kingwood Children, Tops Day Nursery, Stepping Stones Nursery, Bright Sparks IKB, Spring Nursery and The Brambles Nursery all attended the day.

The students were able to develop vital employability skills with each employer by taking part in mock interviews and communication challenges – particularly valuable as they progress to the conclusion of their course this summer.

The intention of these activities was to allow adequate and realistic practice to prepare each student for their impending search for permanent employment. By utilising real-world employers from a range of settings, the students were able to get an accurate impression of what they can expect in their search for work.

The experience also highlights the strong links between the curriculum programme and local employers in the sector, demonstrating just one aspect of how T Levels develop students’ readiness for the workplace.

Employers commented on how knowledgeable, prepared, confident and experienced the students were:

Very good students: well mannered, well prepped, well presented and well spoken!

We would have loved to employ all of the students we interviewed today.

Students found the experience very beneficial. Esme, T Level Education & Early Years student, commented:

The day allowed me to experience what questions I might be asked in a real interview, it improved my confidence, and allowed me to meet potential employers.

Kay Davey, Course Leader, said,

We are so proud of our second year students who will be incredible educators as they step out into fully qualified employment this year! A huge thank you to each and every employer for making the day possible; I’m confident it was extremely beneficial to our students and will help them secure employment in the future.
