Course Overview

The Royal Horticulture Society’s (RHS) Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture is a new and updated classroom-based theory programme that can be taken on its own or as part of the Certificate in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture.

The RHS Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Horticulture consists of eight units. The topics and their content are as follows:

UNIT 1
•Plant Science I
•Plant Health
•Plant Nutrition
•Plant Specification

UNIT 2
•Plant Science II
•Planting Styles
•Horticulture and Society
•Biodiversity

Who the course is for
This course is designed for those who wish to develop a level of horticultural knowledge deemed to be essential by the horticulture industries. It is suitable for the amateur gardener and those wishing to gain employment in a range of horticultural industries. Ideal for career changers, professional horticulturalists or casual learners.

Assessment Methods

The assessment of this course is undertaken by sitting two examinations, one at the end Unit 1, then unit 2. (Spring and Summer term).

Progression Options

After further study of the RHS Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture, students can progress to the RHS level 3 programme.
