Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) Students, from the Animal and Environmental Sciences engaged in an incredible Environmental Day, particularly focusing on the Cannington Campus and Village-based sustainability activities.
The students learnt about the hazards posed to wildlife through littering and learnt how it is possible to have such a large, positive impact within the local area. In a hands-on learning experience, completing a village litter pick, including the children’s play park, the students cleared a massive 49.1kg of rubbish!
Their days were packed with a variety of environmentally based activities, such as; making hedgehog houses, creating bug hotels, cleaning the Cannington Community Orchard, painting wildflower seeds and undertaking biodiversity surveys, allowing the start of a log of species found on campus.
These activities not only enriched the students understanding of ecological responsibility but also fostered a strong sense of community, within the village of Cannington. By directly engaging with their environment, the students showcased the powerful impact of collective action in preserving and enhancing local wildlife and habitats.
