Course Overview

This A Level course offers an immersive journey into the intricate web of interactions between the natural world and human society. From understanding ecosystems to grappling with pressing environmental challenges, students will engage in scientific inquiry and critical analysis to become stewards of our planet’s future.

The topics studied cover many aspects of the world around us, including conservation methods, land-use conflict, global climate change, pollution, energy resources, sustainable biological resources, evolution, biotechnology and ecosystems, and population dynamics – a fantastic array of topics so that everyone will find an area that interests them. It is also very contextualised to relate it to how the world works around you.

There may also be an opportunity to take part in an international residental, which in the past have included destinations such as Italy, Iceland and Costa Rica. This subject works particularly well, but not exclusively, alongside Geography, Biology, Chemistry, and Maths.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through 2 three-hour written examinations at the end of the course, comprising of a combination of multiple choice, short answer, and extended writing questions. There will be regular internal assessments taking place as the course unfolds. You are also required to participate in field trips as part of this course.

Spotlight

I love A Levels – they allow me to discuss a broad range of topics and the fact that I was able to select three subjects that I really enjoy means I have fun whilst learning, and don't feel restricted. They complement one another nicely, helping me progress onto university where I will study Journalism. I definitely feel like they give me a lot of skills I wouldn't have had if I hadn't studied A Levels at this college.
