Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) Sport and Exercise Science students and Sport Coaching and Development students attended a residential trip to Mendip Activity Centre in Sandford, Winscombe.
During the week, students took part in a range of outdoor activities including abseiling, climbing, kayaking, axe throwing, air rifle shooting, active archery and an assault course. In total, nearly 60 students attended the residential said to be “an experience that they will never forget”.
Jonny Hunt, Course Leader, commented,
The residential trip to Mendip Activity Centre is not only a fun, adventurous, and action packed week for our students, but it also plays a key role in the students developing their confidence, leadership and how well they build healthy working relationships with their peers and BTC staff.
It is so rewarding to see students overcome fears, take on new challenges and be pushed outside of their comfort zones within the first 6 weeks of meeting each other. A great week to finish off a busy first half term at BTC!
Samantha Kruszona, Sport and Exercise Science student, said,
Our trip to Mendip was super fun and beneficial, especially when it comes to learning new skills, working together and getting to know each other. Our days were completely packed with so many activities and there was never a moment that we were bored.
One of my personal highlights was when we spent the whole day doing rock climbing and abseiling. It was a day where I learnt stuff about myself, learning to do new things, and being able to test myself. But the week was filled with such a variation of activities, so even the days that were adrenaline packed we would still have a contrast in activities like air rifle shooting and axe throwing.
