Students from Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) showcased their exceptional talent and competitive spirit at the British Schools Gymnastic Association’s (BSGA) National Trampoline Finals 2025.
The budding athletes brought home one Gold and two Silver medals from the prestigious event held at the Derby Arena.
The dedicated Team BTC trampolinists earned their spots at the national competition through excellent performances in two qualifying events held earlier in the academic year.
To prepare for the high-stakes environment, the team travelled to Derby on the evening prior to the finals for an orientation session in the arena.
The competition day proved highly successful for the College and the students’ respective clubs. Grace, BTC student, kicked off the medal haul with a superb silver medal performance, strongly supported by her coach and club.
In the highly competitive Elite category, a team consisting of Morgan, Caitlin, Alexander, Liv and Lily delivered an incredibly strong collective performance against challenging opposition, securing another silver medal. Morgan also achieved a commendable finish in the individual Elite competition.
Other Team BTC competitors also demonstrated significant skill and composure. Chloe, competing in the Year 7-14 Novice group, recovered admirably from a mistake in her first routine to successfully complete her somersault in the second. Gracie delivered two solid routines, narrowly missing out on a medal and podium finish.
The day culminated in a surprise, dramatic victory for DJ, Sports Coaching student, in the Elite category. Having initially travelled to officiate for the College and acting as the first reserve, DJ was unexpectedly given the opportunity to compete just minutes before the event began.
Displaying remarkable resilience and adaptability with almost no time to prepare, DJ seized the moment and secured a Gold medal!
Laura Gallagher, ex-Olympic athlete and Associate Trampolining Instructor at BTC, expressed her pride in the entire team’s achievements and conduct,
It was a brilliant day for the whole team, and I am very proud of each team member – everyone represented themselves and the College incredibly well. Completing their routines in front of a large crowd, in a big arena, in the biggest event on the College calendar, takes huge courage.
When you get onto the trampoline, you are on your own, and it can feel quite daunting. So, for each team member to have the courage to put themselves out there… I have so much respect for you. These are skills that go beyond the sport, and I am sure you will all be able to use this experience in whatever challenges you face next.
BTC congratulations the team on their successes, and will continue to facilitate incredible sporting and performance opportunities in their future, not only to enrich studies but to ensure their talent is further sharpened alongside their studies.
