Bridgwater College’s Cannington Golf Centre has been proving increasingly popular with young golfers since two new coaching programmes have been introduced.

The nine hole course is now offering a five week coaching programme for 5-12 year olds with resident PGA golf pro Ron Macrow imparting his skills and expertise to budding golfers on Saturday mornings. The programme costs just £15 for the five weeks and you don’t need to be a member to sign up.

The Golf Centre is also working with Lee Westwood Golf School to offer a two year full-time programme for 14-16 year olds to run alongside their GCSE studies. This course, in association with Brymore School, will give the pupils a Level 2 Diploma in Sport and the opportunity to develop their golfing abilities alongside.

The Lee Westwood partnership has already been a success this summer with the young golfers who took part in his Training Camp at Cannington during the holidays; the five day course saw the 7 to 19 year olds gain insight into the training methods used by the top professionals and a chance to practise their swing. Lee Westwood said,

“I’m really proud to be associated with these projects, especially the new two year programme as the 14-16 age can be such an important developmental stage for up and coming junior golfers.”

The award winning course at the Cannington Golf Centre was designed by architect Martin Hawtree, who has recently been applauded for his designs for the new Donald Trump Golf Resort in Scotland. Cannington has a fully automated floodlit driving range, a pro shop and clubhouse, with on-going special offers and events throughout the year.
