Be part of something BIG! Amazing Apprenticeship opportunities in Steel Fixing & Shuttering Carpentry. This Apprenticeship is delivered at our state-of-the-art Construction Skills & Innovation Centre in Cannington, which is equipped with a vast range of Steel Fixing and Formwork tasks and is really leading the field.

The course is made up of tutorials, workshops and practicals. There are 11 units to be studied, covering health and safety practices and interpretation of drawings both 2D and 3D. You will complete your CSCS Apprentice Red Card, and by the end of the Apprenticeship will receive your Blue Card (on successful completion of the CSCS test). If employed by BYLOR, you will be placed at Europe’s biggest construction site, Hinkley Point C Power Station, building the super-structure of the first nuclear power station to be built in the UK for 30 years!

In response to demand from major construction companies who require formworkers to have CSCS cards to operate on site, we now offer a range of courses so that workers can prove their competence.

CSIC’s team are industry professional trainers and assessors, who are passionate about delivering the very best training. This, combined with this state-of-the-art facility, ensures some of the highest completion rates in the country.

This Apprenticeship is for anyone aged 16 or above (for legal reasons, 17.5 years or above if working at Hinkley C) who is looking for a career in Formworking Civil Engineering. You will have the opportunity to learn from the best instructors, who have many years of experience. You will be working at your place of employment. If employed by BYLOR, you will be placed at Hinkley Point Power Station which a huge project is expecting to last at least a decade. The work is predominantly outdoors and you will be required to work closely with the Formwork team, engineers and industry suppliers.

On-site assessment will play a vital part of your course as well as the College-based sessions, to enable you to become a competent steel fixer. With such a project on your CV and learning at such a specialist centre, this will put you in good sted for a flourishing career in Formworking.

The Apprenticeship will last approximately 18 months, consisting of six College blocks and the rest on-site gaining valuable site experience. You will be expected to complete all the criteria within this time. We have had a number of apprentices who have come through the Construction Skills & Innovation Centre that are now in supervisory and management positions on-site at Hinkley Point C. The project is so big, the scope for progression is huge. Work hard and it will pay off.

Assessment Methods

The assessment is evidence-based, which will be obtained via the workplace and within the College environment. The evidence will be collected and submitted in the candidate’s portfolio.

Progression Options

Progression is highly possible within the HPC project. We have had a number of apprentices who have come through the Construction Skills & Innovation Centre that are now in supervisory and management positions on-site. The project is so big, the scope for progression is huge. Work hard and it will pay off.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirments, but if employed by BYLOR you need to
be at least 17.5 years of age for legal reasons, keen to learn, and not shy of
hard work! You will also be expected to work towards a Level 2 in Functional
Skills within the course.

Attendance Requirements Block release and residential blocks are available based on employer needs. You are paid as an employee from the moment you enrol on the course, so attendance will be treated as such.
