Course Overview

This course is suitable for qualified electricians to design electrical installations for domestic, commercial and industrial premises. Those who wish to take electrical design to the next level further their career and obtain an Industry recognised qualification.

What does the course involve?

· Relevant statutory and non-statutory regulations

· Installation design and construction

· Selection of equipment

· Procedures in design and verification

· Application of BS 7671

Five books are also essential to the course and exam:

· IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition

· IET On-Site Guide (BS 7671-2018)

· IET Guidance Note 3: Inspection & Testing

· IET Guidance Note 1 ‘€“ Selection & Erection of Equipment

· Electrical Installation Design Guide: Calculations for Electricians and Designers (4th Edition)

Assessment Methods

The assessment for this course is in two parts. There will be a project assigned at the beginning of the course, and a minimum of 40 hours is required. The candidate will have to return 5 weeks after the training period for one day and you will have to submit your project 5 weeks later. There will also be a 3 hour written exam at the end of the course. You will have to achieve a pass in both the assessment and exam to gain the qualification. The overall qualification is a pass or fail only. The grades achieved will be useful for the learner to recognise their own ability and provide evidence to current or future employer.
