As an Early Years Educator, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and secure learning environment for children. Your responsibilities will include fostering an inclusive atmosphere that supports the diverse needs of all learners. You will need to demonstrate a strong understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion principles ensuring that every child feels valued.

In this position, you will teach and facilitate children’s learning through play, guiding them in their developmental journey and helping them explore the world around them.

This qualification is ideal for you if you are working in an early years setting in a job role that includes planning and key working, and wish to develop your skills and knowledge to a level which demonstrates that you are competent.

You will be required to attend classes at our Taunton Campus as well as online sessions one day a week. You and your line manager/mentor will be required to attend regular review meetings with the assessor who will visit your workplace for observations.

Assessment Methods

You will build a portfolio to use in a professional discussion as part of your End Point Assessment, which will include coursework and practical assessments in your workplace. You will also need to sit a knowledge test as part of your End Point Assessment.

You may be required to sit exams for Functional Skills in English and Maths if you do not already have these.

Your employer will organise for you to study a Level 3 qualification in Paediatric First Aid.

Progression Options

On completion of this course you could apply to do CACHE Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner, CACHE Level 5 Diploma for the Early Years Senior Practitioner or a Sector Endorsed (Early Years) Foundation Degree.

Entry Requirements


  • To access this Apprenticeship Standard you will need to be in relevant
    employment, with experience in the role. You will have at least five GCSEs in
    the A* – C/4-9 range, including English and Maths, or a relevant Level 2
    qualification with a Merit or Distinction.  You should have GCSE English
    and Maths at C/4 or above.

  • Valid DBS.

  • An interview is required for this course.

  • Mature students welcome to apply.

Attendance Requirements You will spend some hours in college, depending on the agreement your employer makes with Bridgwater and Taunton College. For this Apprenticeship this can be a Monday at Bridgwater campus or a Thursday at Taunton campus.
