Course Overview

This qualification is ideal for you if you are working in an early years setting in a job role that includes planning and keyworking, and wish to develop your skills and knowledge to a level which demonstrates that you are competent.

Mandatory units cover core knowledge and skills competencies.

Content includes:

  • Child development from conception to seven years
  • Theories which underpin practice
  • Personal development
  • Safeguarding
  • Health, safety and wellbeing

You will attend an online session one afternoon a week for a year and be expected to complete written assignments in self-study at home. You will have one-to-one reviews and an Assessor will visit your workplace.

You may wish topurchase a textbook to support your learning.

The qualification is recognised by the DfE as a full Level 3 with license to practice.

Assessment Methods

Assessment mostly takes place in your working environment through observations whilst you carry out day-to-day activities. This means that you are proving your work is to a nationally recognised level at the same time as doing your job. You will also complete an online portfolio of evidence using various assessment methods including assignments.

Progression Options

On completion of this qualification, you will need Functional Skills Level 2 or above in English and Maths to be able to be counted in ratios as a qualified Level 3 practitioner. If you progress to a Deputy Manager or Manager role, you can consider studying the CACHE Level 5 Diploma for the Early Years Senior Practitioner.
