Course Overview

If your job involves applying pesticides in a commercial role then you are legally required to hold an appropriate Certificate of Competence by the Control of Pesticide Regulations. You will need to undertake the foundation module (PA1) plus a relevant application module (i.e. PA2, PA3, PA4, PA6). The PA1 on its own is not a recognised certificate of competence.

This is the foundation module only that places a strong emphasis upon using and handling pesticides safely. This course will cover:

  • Legislation
  • Personal safety and contamination
  • Pesticide & Container Storage
  • Record keeping
  • Label information
  • Operator responsibilities
  • Container and packaging disposal
  • Environmental and wildlife consideration
  • Emergency procedures

To successfully achieve this course, you will need to complete and pass the City & Guilds E-volve test which is a multiple-choice online exam.

This course is delivered over 1 day with the online exam taking place at the end of the day.

Successful completion is a condition of entry to the other pesticide application modules (i.e. PA2, PA3, PA4, PA6).

If you are already enrolled on a full-time course at the College you may be eligible for a discount, however depending upon your programme of study, you may need to attend outside of your current timetable.

In the unlikely event that your course is cancelled, we will refund your fees. However, these courses are run on viable numbers and if you choose to cancel or withdraw from your course, full fees are payable, unless we can fill your space.
