The duration of the course is 11-13 weeks.
This qualification aims to develop knowledge and understanding of how to work in end of life care, and the support needed to manage pain and discomfort. In addition, the qualification explores how dementia impacts on end of life care, the role of the care worker in time of death and the loss and grief process.

Section 3 Understand factors regarding communication in end of life care
Section 4 Know how to access the range of support services available to individuals and others
UNIT 2
Care planning in end of life care
Section 1 Understand the holistic approach to end of life care
Section 2 Understand person-centred assessment and care planning
Section 3 Understand advance care planning
UNIT 3
Understand how to provide support to manage pain and discomfort
Section 1 Understand approaches to managing pain and discomfort
Section 2 Know how to assist in minimising individuals pain or discomfort
Section 3 Know how to monitor, record and report on the management of individuals pain or discomfort
UNIT 4
End of life care and dementia
Section 1 Know how an individuals dementia can affect their end of life care
Section 2 Know how to support individuals with dementia affected by pain and distress at end of life
Section 3 Know how to support family, significant others and friends of an individual at end of life
UNIT 5
Understanding the role of the care worker in time of death
Section 1 Understand how to support an individual as they are approaching death
Section 2 Understand how to care for a deceased individual
Section 3 Know the support needed by family, significant others and friends of the deceased individual
Section 4 Understand relevant legislation and policies
UNIT 6
Understanding loss and grief in end of life care
Section 1 Know the process of loss and grief
Section 2 Understand loss in context of end of life care
Section 3 Understand how to support people following bereavement
Section 4 Understand how to manage own feelings of loss and grief when working in end of life care
Upon enrolment you will be provided with learner support materials that will give you the knowledge and understanding required to undertake the assessments. To be awarded the qualification you need to successfully complete all of the workbooks.
As you work through the learning materials you will have the support of a knowledgeable assessor/tutor who will give you support, advice and guidance on the course content as well as providing robust feedback on the work you complete. Upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded a Certificate.
The staff have been very supportive they will do anything to help whether it be staying late or putting in 100% to make the lessons more suited to you. The staff have backgrounds in the specific course in which you want to take which helps to get another person’s view on what it’s like to work in the sector and also the course covers all areas of the subject and there is nothing that isn’t covered within the syllabus and modules.
