Course Overview

An operations/departmental manager is generally someone who is able to manage teams and/or projects, and has responsibility for planning, delivering and achieving departmental goals and objectives. They are accountable to a more senior manager, head of department or small business owner, and are responsible for the operational and/or policy delivery of the organisation’s strategy.

This Apprenticeship has been designed to provide access to development opportunities for as wide a range of individuals as possible. This includes individuals who wish to develop into professional management, as well as those who may already have established practical experience but who wish to develop their theoretical understanding of management skills.
It is applicable to professional managers from all sectors – the private, public or third sector – and all sizes of organisation. It will typically take up to 2 ½ years to complete, although the exact duration will be dependent on the previous experience of the individual.

As part of this apprenticeship you will study a CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management & Leadership which will cover the knowledge elements required. This comprises of the following units:

  • Principles of Management and Leadership in an Organisational Context
  • Principles of Developing, Managing and Leading Individuals and Teams to Achieve Success
  • Managing Stakeholder Relationships
  • Managing Projects to Achieve Results
  • Managing Change
  • Creating and Delivering Operational Plans
  • Managing Finance
  • Using Reflective Practise to Inform Personal and Professional Development

Progression Options

On completion, apprentices can register as full members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership & Management, and those with three years management experience can apply for Chartered Manager status through the CMI.

Spotlight

I decided to do Level 2 Business which I thoroughly enjoyed which made me chose to develop my understanding of Business and so then I went on to do Level 3 in Business.
