Begin your apprenticeship journey at BTC by applying for an apprenticeship on our website or through our prospectus form. Please apply for a full-time course as your second option. The L3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship is ideal for those looking to advance their career in education by supporting teachers and enhancing the learning experience for children. You will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to work effectively with children in a variety of educational settings. Previous qualifications or experience in education are beneficial. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical application assessed in the work environment.
Content includes:
‘¢Understanding the roles and responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant
‘¢Supporting the safeguarding and welfare of children in educational settings
‘¢Promoting positive behaviour and learning outcomes
‘¢Collaborating with teachers and other professionals to support student development.
You will be required to attend classes at our Bridgwater campus. Regular review meetings with your line manager/mentor and the assessor will be arranged, as well as assessor visits to your workplace for observations.

There are no written exams for the apprenticeships, instead you build a portfolio which includes coursework and practical assessments from your workplace. You may be required to sit exams for Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT if they do not already have these.
On successful completion of the Apprenticeship you could find permanent employment in early years settings.

My ambition is to become a primary school teacher and make a difference to children's lives. I'm keen to work with children who have additional needs, as I know the value of being supported and helped. After College I plan to study degree and then a PGCE course in order to become a qualified teacher.
