Begin your apprenticeship journey at BTC by applying for an apprenticeship on our website or through our prospectus form. Please apply for a full-time course as your second option. Then, have a look at relevant vacancies by visiting our vacancy page . If you haven’t found a suitable vacancy, you will automatically be placed into our Talent Pool. This courseis for anyone interested in doing an apprenticeship to become a livestock unit technician on farm. You will focus on all aspects of livestock husbandry. This will cover;

  • Animal health and welfare
  • Legislation
  • Learning about key performance indicators and how these can help to set achievable targets for the farm you are working on.

The course allowsyou to gain practical knowledge at work whilst coming to College for one day a week to embed this with other knowledge and skills.

Assessment Methods

End point assessment to include: o Multiple choice exam. o Practical observation in the workplace by an external assessor. o Professional discussion with an external assessor (underpinned by an ePortolio of evidence).

Progression Options

On completion, you could progress to the Foundation Degree in Agriculture Management or find employment in the industry.

Entry Requirements

You will need to undertake an initial assessment of your Maths and English ability and obtain a minimum of Level 1 (which is equivalent to a GCSE grade 3). In addition, an appropriate Level 2 qualification in Agriculture is also required. Entry will also be subject to a successful interview.
