The Plumbing& Domestic Heating Apprenticeship is part of the apprenticeship offer in Building Services. Plumbing& Domestic Heating Technicians plan, select, install, service, commission and maintain all aspects of plumbing and heating systems. Plumbing& Domestic Heating Technicians can find themselves working in commercial or domestic properties so customer service skills, are important qualities.

The occupation involves the installation of plumbing and heating systems. Such as gas, oil and solid fuel boilers as well as pumps, heat emitters, bathroom furniture or controls as part of a cold water, hot water, and central heating or above ground drainage and rainwater systems. Also work on new environmental technologies like heat pumps, solar thermal systems, biomass boilers and water recycling systems. Plumbing& Heating Technician can work independently or as a team to ensure that both the system and appliances are done so in a safe, efficient and economical manner to minimise waste. On completion of this apprenticeship, candidates will be able to carry out all the activities undertaken by a Plumber.

This course focuses on the complex planning and installation of specialised plumbing installations.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is through a range of practical tasks and an e-portfolio. The portfolio is made up of evidence gathered in the workplace in addition to some on-site assessments. You will also complete a range of multiple choice and written exams.

End-point assessment is the final stage that an apprentice goes through to complete their apprenticeship. The apprentice must demonstrate their learning to an independent end-point assessor and the grades available are distinction, merit, pass or fail.

Spotlight

I was really interested in the College because it has a good selection of tools and machinery, great tutors and I liked the workshops. It also offers courses from Level 1 to 3 in furniture making and design, which meant I could start at Level 1 and build my skills, plus I study maths alongside my course.
