Nestled in Cannington, Somerset, Bridgwater & Taunton College hosts The Construction Skills and Innovation Centre (CSIC), a pioneering establishment built in partnership between the College, Heart of the South West LEP, and EDF Energy in response to the skills need for the HPC Nuclear new build project. CSIC is not just a training centre but a dynamic environment that mirrors the rigours and demands of a live construction site, equipped with industry-standard machinery and equipment.
The centre provides critical skills training and Apprenticeships for infrastructure construction. CSIC’s curriculum is expansive, encompassing groundworks, steel fixing, formwork, water utilities, slinging and lifting, lifting supervision, and Appointed Persons Site Supervision and Management courses, alongside a variety of CPCS plant categories.
CSIC is the UK’s leading civil engineering training centre, offering bespoke training products to employers across the UK. Numerous candidates have transformed their careers thanks to the skillset acquired throughout the training programmes and hands-on learning.
CSIC is also home to Construction Live – where health & safety protocols, high project values, and behaviours are not just taught but experienced. Participants are encouraged to meet the stringent demands characteristic of real-world construction projects, making it an invaluable component of Degree and Apprenticeship programmes. In essence, CSIC is not just a centre for learning but a gateway to experiential knowledge, where skills are honed and professionals are crafted to support the future of the construction sector.
