After my A-levels I wasn’t sure what career I wanted in the future. I decided to go to university as I didn't know what alternatives were available and as I got the grades, it seemed like the right thing to do.

I spent six months studying at university before deciding it wasn’t for me and took some time out to research what else I could do. The apprenticeship scheme appealed to me as not only would I achieve a qualification through it but I would also gain first-hand experience in a professional work place whilst earning money.

I am studying business administration whilst working at Poolbridge Accountancy. I am now half way through my year’s apprenticeship and have gained more knowledge and experience than my time at university. From just six months at university I came out with thousands of pounds of debt so it feels good to be paid to learn instead of paying to learn.

Both Bridgwater College and my employer are keen to help me with my studies, and life at work is allowing me to improve and gain the skills, qualifications and experience I will need in future jobs. After my years apprenticeship I plan to stay in the company and start the AAT apprenticeship.
