The Bridgwater College Motorsport Race Team returned to the track last weekend after almost a year out of action following an engine failure in the early part of last season.

And what a return.

Pole position on the grid, fastest lap and ultimately a win in the first race of the Castle Combe Sports Racing Series. Oh. And they lapped the rest of the field.

In wet conditions, and 2 year-old tyres in comparison to most others on new tyres, the team managed a time fast enough for pole in their first track session.

During the race itself, now in dry conditions, Josh Smith, the race team’s driver, lapped 3-4 seconds faster than the rest of the field, ultimately passing the entire field during the course of the race.

Given we can barely afford new parts for the car there were no ‘bubbles’ to celebrate the chequered flag, but hopefully they found a little time to bask in their glory.

Next up is Silverstone on 8 May. Fingers crossed for a similar result.
