University Centre Somerset students have elected their new Student Union President!

Bethan Nodwell, a BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) student, will also represent the entire UCS student body as Student Governor on the college-wide Board of Governors.

After completing the Nursing & Midwifery Access to HE Diploma, Bethan chose to continue her nurse training at the Taunton campus. This decision felt like a natural next step since UCS boasts fantastic new nursing facilities within a convenient local setting. For Bethan, this means she can balance university and work life more easily.

When we asked her why else she chose to do an Adult Nursing degree, she said:

I decided on the nursing pathway because compassion and empathy are two of my key qualities and I want a career I can be proud of. I knew I had made the right choice when my son told me ‘he couldn’t believe I was going to keep hearts beeping’. I am classed as a mature student, and I chose to study now because my son has grown up enough for me to allow time for studying.

Empathy and compassion are also important qualities for Bethan when it comes to being Student Union President. A self-described:

Outgoing, life of the party type person that always enjoys meeting new people.

Bethan is a perfect fit for the president position, and is keen to help create a positive student experience. She will work closely with the Student Engagement Officer, Sue Stevens, to help build up the student community and create opportunities for all students to engage. We wish her all the best in her new role!

If you would like to chat to Bethan, she will be based in the UCS Common Room which is accessible to UCS Students. You can also contact our Student Engagement Officer at stevenss@btc.ac.uk.
