Automotive, Motorsport and Engineering students from Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) and University Centre Somerset (UCS) were provided the opportunity to expand their educational horizons at AutoSport International 2024, Europe’s premier motorsport show.
Taking place at the NEC in Birmingham, the excursion enabled students to immerse themselves in the latest industry trends, and connect with professionals in the field.
The newly rebranded ‘A24′ show featured a fresh layout and new attractions spread across five halls. This presented a unique learning environment for students, who engaged with various aspects of motorsports and automotive engineering – whether grassroots racing and karting or elite series like the F1 and the FIA World Rally Championship.
Engineering students explored an expanded Engineering section, learning all about the latest developments in motorsport engineering. This allowed for deeper engagement with suppliers, buyers, and industry professionals, enhancing their understanding of current practices.
All students enjoyed significant networking opportunities, helping their future career prospects and aspirations.
A highlight for many students, the all-new VIBE arena featured state-of-the-art performance tuning and modification, demonstrated by industry-leading influencers and live displays. The Live Action Arena offered an adrenaline-filled experience with stunts, displays, and feature races – both the perfect setting for students to learn more about the dynamics of automotive performance and engineering in a live setting.
Thomas Bull, Course Leader, said,
Each year, we love having the opportunity from our friends at AutoSport International to attend their excellent tradeshow. It provides such a unique opportunity for our students to apply much of what they learn in the classroom to a real environment – and gives them plenty of new career paths to explore!
Max Langmaid, a UCS Foundation Degree learner, had his own vehicle on-stage, was available for interview, and recognised for his successes as the All 4 British Rallycross Champion.
The trip was an embodiment of the My BTC Advantage – providing real-world, experiential learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom and prepare students for successful careers.
