Team BC made the long trip to Cornwall recently for their away fixture against Truro and Penwith College in the AoC Sport South West Cat 2 league.

The long minibus journey didn’t bother Jack Williams, who hit the ground running, scoring the first two baskets for Team BC from behind the arc for 6 of his personal 23 points in the game. This was complimented with some strong moves to the basket by Liam Vickery to give Team BC a respectable 16 point first quarter. However, Truro were getting good looks at the basket too and finished the quarter ahead by 2 points.

In the second quarter Truro pulled ahead by 9 but a three pointer on the buzzer from Jack Williams brought Team BC back within 6.

Coach Richard Anderson stressed the importance of getting a good start to the second half and Team BC didn’t disappoint. Jack Williams ran in 3 fast break layups in a row amongst scores from Connor Barrie and Matthew Harding for a 9 – 0 run to put them up 48 – 47 going into the fourth quarter.

Truro could see the momentum had swung in favour of the visitors and so stepped up their defence another gear. This resulted in some sloppy turnovers from Team BC and easy scores for Truro that put them up by 8 with less than 2 minutes to play. Unfortunately Liam Vickery had been fouled out of the game and was greatly missed. Team BC had to play an aggressive pressure defence to try and get the ball back but this allowed Truro to keep a safe distance by successfully converting their free-throws.

Team BC made a valiant attempt to get back in the game with Rob MacIntyre running in 5 points in the last minute but Truro’s lead was too big. Matthew Harding had a great game, securing double figure rebounds and contributing his most minutes all season.

Final score: Team BC 58 – 65 Truro

Team BC Scorers: Jack Williams 23 points, Liam Vickery 15 points, Rob MacIntyre 9 points, Connor Barrie 4 points, Matt Harding 3 points, Callum Hodge 2 points, Max Elve 2 points.
