Bridgwater College hosted their first ever ‘Colour-ful Run’ recently, which saw more than 80 staff and students take part in the exciting and colourful event.

The event was organised to raise money for two charities, Anthony Nolan and Delete Blood Cancer, as well as to celebrate a fantastic year of sports participation, all as part of the college’s Team BC Active provision.

Bridgwater College got their idea for their own ‘Colour-ful Run’ from the ever growing ‘Colour Run’ franchise. The Colour Run, presented by Skittles is the original, largest and most unique 5km run in the world, celebrating healthiness, happiness and generally having the time of your life! For this reason, Bridgwater College thought it would be a very fitting tribute to Luke Buckingham, as did many staff and students, which resulted in the College raising over £400 for the charities.

Runners started the afternoon in a white t-shirt, before getting covered from head to toe in a rainbow of colours as they made their way around the course. Participants could choose to do either 3km or 5km course and could walk, skip, jog or run around their chosen distance. The winner of the 5k discipline was Sport and Exercise Science student Eric Evans.

Sammy Kemmish, Sports Massage Intern and Colour-ful Run Organiser said,

“I am absolutely buzzing at the success of our event. The atmosphere has been amazing and exactly what I had envisaged, with both staff and students coming together to raise money for two charities very close to our hearts.

“My job with BC Active requires me to encourage students who generally don’t get in involved in sport, to participate and overcome any barriers they may face in relation to sport and fitness. I feel very proud of what I have achieved.”

Rebecca Brewer, Community Fundraising Assistant from Anthony Nolan said,

“A huge thank you to Bridgwater College for their ‘Colour-ful Run’ and raising a fantastic £200.37 in aid of Anthony Nolan. I hope everyone that took part enjoyed the run. Please pass on our thanks to everyone involved!”
