Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) held the 2023 Student Awards Ceremony, at the iconic McMillan Theatre, spotlighting the exceptional achievements of college students.
The atmosphere was electric as we celebrated student achievement across the board, those who have not only excelled in academics, sports, and arts but have also made significant contributions to their communities and societies at large.
The aim of the Student Awards is to recognise and celebrate the hard work, dedication, and resilience of students from across the college. This year, the awards were split across several categories, from Academic Excellence, Community Service to the Principal’s Prize.
Governors were given the significant challenge of selecting the winners from hundreds of nominations and reflected on the challenge by saying
It’s a tremendous honour to be involved in this process, BTC students demonstrate skills and achievements far beyond expectations and it has been incredibly difficult to narrow it down. We’re excited to see what these bright minds will accomplish in the future. Today, we celebrate their achievements; tomorrow, they will shape our world.
Throughout the evening, guests heard about the achievements of the students including those who consistently attained top grades in their academic studies whilst combining their study with extra-curricular activity such as volunteering in the community or giving maths master classes to non-maths specialists! Whilst other awards highlighted students who have overcome tremendous personal challenges to achieve their goals and others who advocate for minority groups.
In his closing remarks, Andy Berry, Principal and CEO of BTC, said,
The Student Awards are a testament to the potential and determination of our young leaders, innovators, and change-makers. We, are proud to provide an environment that recognises, encourages and supports our students. Our students are evidence that with passion, perseverance, and the right resources, we can overcome any obstacle and achieve great things. I am looking forward to welcoming them back to the College as alumni and hearing about their accomplishments.
