Donations To Arboriculture & Horticulture | Bridgwater & Taunton College

Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) gratefully received donations from leading suppliers for use across Arboriculture & Horticulture courses.

Wiggly Wigglers is a company that supply composting solutions, having been established in 1990. Their generosity has led to a kindly donation to the Horticulture department in the form of a Bokashi and a Urbalive Kit.

These kits will help the College to be more sustainable by decreasing waste produced from food. This will also help with improving soil health on campuses, as well as educating students on these topical matters.

The Bokashi Kit will help with the composting of food waste and provide a useable compost, whilst the Urbalive kit is a wormery which will help produce a nutrient rich plant food to help with feeding of our plants in a more environmentally friendly way.

Another two companies – Somerlap and Baksaver Wheelbarrows – were also kind enough to donate useful industry-standard equipment that will positively impact student learning.

Somerlap manufacture a vast selection of quality garden products from garden benches, sheds, planters, fence panels, and more. Through their strong partnership with the College, Somerlap very kindly donated three fence panels and wooden posts.

These panels have already been put to great use, being used in a new garden built at the Cannington campus called “The Vista Garden”. These donated panels and posts will be used over the next few years to showcase to students the different fencing products available and how they are installed.

Alongside this, Baksaver Wheelbarrows kindly offered to donate two new unique wheelbarrows for the College to use.

Baksaver Wheelbarrows have been designed for those who suffer from back problems or find lifting heavy objects difficult. The wheelbarrows are award-winning and have a multi-use purpose, boasting a unique geometrical emptying system that entails an effortless step-on-a-push pedal.

Finally, earlier in the year Stihl UK donated four new chainsaws – worth several thousand pounds – to the Arboriculture department. These will be a massive asset to current and future students, and will be used for years to come.

BTC are ecstatic to receive such a wide-array of equipment from leading suppliers, ensuring students continue to get a clear indication of what they can expect when moving into their careers in industry.
