Bridgwater and Taunton College’s Level 3 Agriculture Student, Emily Davis, has recently won the award of ‘Overall Champion Handler 2019′ at the South West Dairy Show 2019.

The South West Dairy Show is a one-day event which attracts over 6,000 visitors, 300 trade stands as well as over 300 cattle exhibition entries. All of the students within the Agriculture department attended the show, which is a key event on the livestock calendar. Opportunities like this give the students the chance to further engage with employers and businesses within the Agriculture industry and support them as they progress into employment.

Emily Davis, L3 Agriculture student, said,

This is a very highly contested competition with the standard being very high and people taking part from all different dairy breeds. The competition is about the handler and how well they show off their animal to make it looks it’s best and I was lucky enough to win for the second year running.

Tom Cunningham, Curriculum Manager for Agriculture, Food and Land Management commented,

The Agriculture team would like to congratulate Emily on her achievements and this award recognises her excellent work ethic, maturity and employment-ready skillset in working with livestock. The South-West Dairy Show is a fantastic event, in which the staff and students benefit from gaining up-to-date industry knowledge on key developments and technology. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Shepton Vets for sponsoring the award.
