Bridgwater and Taunton College (BTC) creative arts students were given the opportunity to design a logo and sign for charity festival Test Fest 2023, an event hosted by testicular cancer charity It’s in the Bag.
It’s in the Bag provides hands-on support for men with testicular cancer in the South West, as well as raising awareness of the disease across the region and beyond.
Operated by a group of testicular cancer survivors with support from specialist NHS staff, the charity was founded in 2009 and has been responsible for many events and campaigns – from their Pledge to Check to the yearly Testicular Ball.
Around 2,400 UK men are diagnosed with testicular cancer each year, and twice as many British men get it now as they did in the mid-1970s.
In support of Testicular Cancer Awareness Month, BTC students were provided with a design brief and tasked with individually designing a letter for the Test Fest logo. This will be used as a prominent 3D festival sign for photo opportunities at Test Fest 2023.
Their submissions were supported by an explanation of their creative process, their inspirations, and why they thought their final pieces achieved the goals outlined in the brief.
A total of 19 students were initially shortlisted by a panel of 8, selected for both their cohesion as a whole and by total number of votes. After much deliberation, 8 students were notified of their success.
Congratulations to Rae Kingsley, Catie Ryder, Sian Gaffney, Neave Hughes, Hali Dunn, Keira Rendall, Zo Evans and Rio Welsh!
Ben Bowring was also congratulated for his excellent design for a separate art piece.
The letters will be cut into 3ft x 4ft pieces, to be delivered to the college where the students will apply their final designs, ready to be displayed at the festival in June.
Sue Brand, Charity Founder and Event organiser, said,
We have been overwhelmed by the entries we have had. The whole project has been a joy to work on, and whilst at times it is so hard to choose one design over another, there have been numerous great examples of the students embracing the concept. We have loved working with the college and hope to work with them in the future.
The charity festival Test Fest 2023 will take place on Saturday 17 June 2023 at Taunton RFC. Tickets are available to purchase at itsinthebag.org.uk.
