Bridgwater & Taunton College is proud to announce the successful return of our second-year Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science and L3 Sports Coaching students from an impactful international volunteer trip to South Africa.
In collaboration with the charity United Through Sport, our students immersed themselves in Port Elizabeth’s community, working across six township schools. They provided invaluable sports coaching and educational support in English and maths, significantly enriching the lives of over 240 children.
The trip’s crowning achievement was the organization of a large-scale sports tournament, which not only brought joy and unity to the local children but also honed our students’ leadership and teamwork skills.
Trip Lead and Course Leader Jonny Hunt remarked,
“This was a unique opportunity for our students to translate their classroom knowledge into real-world impact, enhancing their skills and contributing to a vital cause. Their dedication and growth have been extraordinary.”

Bridgwater & Taunton College is proud to have supported this incredible opportunity through the Turing Scheme, the UK government’s global mobility programme. Thanks to this initiative, eight students received full funding to take part in the South Africa trip, allowing them to gain hands-on experience in coaching, education, and cultural exchange without financial barriers. The Turing Scheme enables BTC students to access international learning experiences, broadening their perspectives, developing key employability skills, and preparing them for future careers in the sports and education sectors.
