During December students studying Level 2 and Level 3 Business & Travel held their first Enterprise Day in the College Hub. The students worked together to raise money for numerous charities including, WWF, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Little Princess Trust and raised in excess of £300 on the day.

The students started planning for Enterprise at the start of the new academic year in September. Their challenge was to work together in a team to create their own business. This challenge helps students to be more prepared for moving into a working environment, teaching them valuable skills like time management, organisational skills and communication skills.

Each group made their own decision on what they could make and sell at a profit. They met on a weekly basis to research and plan their business. The planning involved working with others across the campus and others outside college.

After the event each team reflected on their success, discussing areas for improvement for the next event in February. Raja Malik, studying Level 3 Business said,

“It was a great experience! I'm looking forward to doing more events and raising money to support other charities.”

George Burrows who also studies Level 3 Business decided he could increase his sales by walking around the College selling his cakes. When he returned to his classroom with virtually an empty tray, his tutor Lynn Evans asked George how he had managed to sell so much, George said,

“No one can resist a small person dressed as Santa.”
