Current BTC student Callum Watts has just returned after representing England Colleges National Squad in a week tour of Italy. Callum, who represents Team BTC Men’s football, studies a BTEC Level 3 in Sports Coaching course here at the College.
During the week Callum and his England team mates played 3 games against Italy, Moldova and Wales. The level of the opposition was extremely high this year and although the result didn’t favour them, Callum said that the experience of playing against these players was only something that would help with his development. Callum also received the Man of the Match award for his outstanding performance vs Italy which Callum is very proud of.
Callum said:
Italy was a brilliant experience and something that I will never forget. In our Italy fixture I received man of the match which I was very pleased about and a moment I won’t forget. We had a day where we visited Rome and saw the Colosseum, Vatican museum and much more. I’ve learnt a lot from this experience playing football against different cultures. Succeeding in football is about determination, hard work and having a driven mind-set.
I’d like to thank my College coaches for putting me forward for the trials and being lucky enough to be part of the England Colleges National Team. Especially Mo Hopkins and Jamie laird, a massive thank you. I would recommend BTC to all aspiring footballers.
Callum returns to Bridgwater and Taunton College with a very busy end of the academic year. Not only is he nearing the end of his BTEC L3 Diploma in Sport course; him and his Team BTC team mates have an intense and busy schedule. They are in the final 8 of the ECFA Premier Cup, currently joint top of the U18’s South West Counties league with a few games remaining, they have a semi-final to play and also have the Nationals to look forward to at the end of April up in Nottingham. Callum is also part of the Taunton Town football squad who are looking to get promoted into the Vanarama National League South. So a very busy but exciting few months lay ahead of Callum along with his team mates.
Jamie Laird, Team BTC Manager said
Callum should be extremely proud of what he has achieved this year, but this is not by luck, the amount of hard work him and his team mates put into training and extra training sets a great example for everyone. Callum now has his studies to concentrate on with the final end of the season to look forward to, with him and his team mates still in plenty of cup competitions, a weekend away in Nottingham for the AOC National Championships and the league for both our U18’s and Taunton Town FC.
