Current BTC student Callum Watts has been selected for the England Colleges National Squad. Callum represents Team BTC Men’s football and studies a BTEC Level 3 in Sports Coaching here at the College.

Callum, previously from Heathfield Community School, along with five other BTC team mates attended the first South West trial at SGS College along with students from colleges around the South West. After this trial Callum and Harley Wilkinson were both selected to attend the final trial at Hartpury College where students from all over the country then battled it out in a series of 11v11 matches.

Harley has made it onto the standby list, however Callum has the honour of representing his country in their upcoming games including a tour to Italy in April. His first game will be against Future Elite Sports at Slough FC on 24 November. This follows a two day training camp at England’s National Football Centre, St George’s Park where the squad will play a game against England’s Independent Schools Team.

Callum said:

I’ve worked extremely hard and put a lot of time and effort into this. I’m very happy and thank England Colleges for selecting me. I also want to thank Team BTC and their staff in particular for supporting me through my course and helping me kick on with my football this year. I would recommend BTC to all aspiring footballers.

Jamie Laird, Team BTC Manager said:

Since Pre Season, Callum has worked extremely hard with our expert coaches and thoroughly deserves his call up. He has put in several outstanding performances for our U18’s and College team who compete in the top level of College football and also in our fantastic FA Youth Cup run. Over recent years it’s been great to have so many of our students go on to represent their country at College level and not just in football.

If you would like to be part of our outstanding football provision at the College then find our more at our next Open Evenings.
