BTC’s Conversation Caf√© marked National Picnic Week and the end of term with an international foods picnic at the Taunton campus.
The picnic event was a great opportunity for adult ESOL learners to share and exchange recipes from their own heritages, including Iraqi, Japanese, French, Russian, Ukrainian and Lithuanian dishes.
The Conversation Caf√© is a weekly opportunity to practise conversational English in a friendly and supportive environment. Learners’ first languages include Ukrainian, Arabic, Russian, Japanese and French. The Caf√© runs every Thursday morning at the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at the College’s Taunton campus.
Learners who attend the Café also take part in a National Reading Agency Challenge; reading six books in order to achieve a Reading Ahead certificate. They choose the books they wish to read themselves from a variety of books in the LRC pitched at various reading levels.
