Despite continuous rain on the Saturday, Level 3 and Degree Countryside students, both former and present, assisted the National Hedge Laying Society at their 37th annual hedge laying championships at Chew Valley Lakes.
The Championship offers dozens of competitors from across the country the opportunity to compete against each other in a wide range of regional hedge styles and classes. The students alongside tutors Nigel Cox and Alan Sinclair sold programmes, guided traffic and generally assisted on site on what was a wet but enjoyable day.
Tutor Alan Sinclair said,
“This was an opportunity not to be missed as usually the Championships are a distance away geographically, but more importantly it offered the students the opportunity to see craftsmanship of a high order, in what is a traditional and valuable rural practical skill.”
Congratulations to Paul Matthews the 2015 overall Supreme champion, and to all competitors across the styles and classes. On behalf of the National Hedgelaying Society thanks to students Adam Collett, Kevin Dixon, Huw Rushworth, Jeremy Kenwood, Jonathon Mansfield-Ross and Rebecca Woodgate.
