Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) Apprentice Millie Bishop was delighted when Wellington-based print company Carly Press offered her a full-time position. She completed a Level 3 Design Apprenticeship, which gave her both the academic and practical experience to flourish in the creative industry.
BTC works closely with businesses to provide students with industry connections through work experience and industry placements, and offers a wide range of Apprenticeships for those who want to earn while they learn.
Imogen Parker, Account Manager at Carly Press and Millie’s Mentor and Line Manager, supported Millie throughout the two-year programme. She reflects,
The Apprenticeship scheme has been a huge benefit to the company and Millie is a great asset to the team. She brought her creative flair and positivity plus a can-do attitude, and in return, Millie’s developed graphic design skills, technical ability, creativity and an understanding of the print industry.
After completing her Apprenticeship, Millie starts full-time employment at Carly Press as a Junior Graphic Designer. She said,
I really enjoyed being an Apprentice. I’ve had opportunities to improve and learn new skills, and my tutor Teresa was always on-hand if I had any questions or needed help, whether that was during College studio days or via email. I’m so grateful to Imogen and the team at Carly Press who helped me complete my course and taught me the skills I need to succeed in the Industry.”
