Bridgwater College’s Floristry department is holding a charity Flower Festival from Thursday 21 May to Sunday 24 May at St. Mary the Virgin Cannington Parish Church.
The Flower Festival is celebrating village life, a Bridgwater College and community project of floral design. Fifteen local businesses have sponsored designs at the Festival, and will have displays in their company colours. Businesses include Cannington Village Bakery, Wollens, Blackmore Farm, E.W.J Hill and Son Butchers and MJB Autoservices, amongst others. All money raised will go towards Quantock Deanery Youth & Children’s Support Work and the Rise Up Society, Kenya.
The entrance fee is £5 per person, with under 16s going free; this includes a free entry ticket to The Walled Gardens of Cannington. Refreshments will be available.
Jacqui Weaver, Bridgwater College’s Programme Manager for Floristry said,
“I am so delighted with the amount of response we have had from the local community. This event coincides with the retirement of Rev. Peter Martin, and I feel it will be a fitting tribute to his time at Cannington, and as the chosen theme is celebrating village life, a compliment to the local organisations kindly sponsoring the designs we are building.
“The students have committed to designing these displays around the sponsors’ company colours and styles of business, so visitors will be able to instantly recognise those kind benefactors and have fun exploring the diverse range of displays on show.”
A number of other events will be going on in Cannington on the same weekend, including the free Festival of Wildlife at The Walled Gardens of Cannington, from Saturday 23 – Sunday 24 May, 10am – 4pm, and a free Paul Barrington Trick Shot Golf Show at the Cannington Golf Centre, from 3pm on Saturday 23 May.
