Students studying Floristry at Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Yeovil and Cannington Centre’s travelled to the Royal Botanic Gardens of Kew in London.
There were many areas to explore including a Royal Palace, cultural architecture dotted within the grounds and over 30,000 plants. The latest installation is a replica of a hive where the group were able to experience the sounds that occur inside an actual beehive within the grounds. The hive is designed to light up when the bees are at their most active.
Exploring the Princess of Wales Conservatory gave the students the opportunity to view many of the tropical flowers used in their floristry sessions in situ, and the water lily pond featured a variety of colour.
Student, Reuben Hardman said,
“It was astonishing that such a peaceful haven could be so close to such a busy city. At one stage we were able to sit and watch a small flock of green parakeets eating sweet chestnuts from the trees.”
