Floristry students from Bridgwater College’s Cannington Centre have started their new term with an opportunity to visit the spectacular floral displays that commemorated the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta at Salisbury Cathedral.
The visit gave the group the chance to gather ideas for their own Church Flower Festival, which will be held at Cannington Parish Church in May 2016.
Ruby Cresswell, who is studying the Level 3 Diploma in Floristry at Bridgwater College said,
“I have been inspired by this trip and hope to explore some of the techniques I discovered today to build my design portfolio. Many of the displays could be considered full scale art installations.”
Jacqui Weaver, Course Leader for Floristry at the College said,
“This event allowed the students to witness large scale designs within an historic setting, and reflect on the impact the Magna Carta sealing had on everyday life since its inception. We are looking forward to expanding our design research further during our study tours to Holland & Girona in the spring term.”
