Floristry tutors at Bridgwater and Taunton College’s Cannington Centre have had an eventful few months, their expertise has been recognised by a national and international audience.

Level 3 Floristry tutor, Katherine Kear, was selected to be the designer of an historical display in the main pavilion at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May. The Victorian themed display was awarded a gold medal and drew the attention of a host of famous celebrities, including Dame Judy Dench. The notoriety of her accomplishment resulted in Katherine being invited to travel to Japan this September to lecture and demonstrate on religion, history and culture and how these factors have influenced floral design in the West.

Ruby Cresswell, who teaches the Floristry short courses at the Cannington Centre, was then invited to demonstrate at the Malvern Autumn Show, Worcestershire in the Jonathan Mosely marquee. Ruby worked with locally produced flowers and created flower crowns and tied posies for a wedding.

Jacqui Weaver, Course Leader for Floristry at Bridgwater and Taunton College said,

“Our students are looking forward to the return of our tutors to hear all about their experiences. We are very fortunate to have such an experienced team of floristry tutors, this ensures an exceptional and valuable learning experience for all of our students.”
