Former Bridgwater College student, Tim Bonser returned to the College to help inspire the cast of ‘Spamalot’ on their quest to performing the musical at the new McMillan Theatre in June.
Tim, studied a BTEC in Performing Arts at Bridgwater College and went on to secure a place at the prestigious Arts Education School, London where he gained a BA Hons Degree in Musical Theatre. After graduating, Tim performed a number of roles both in the West End and on tour in South Pacific and Mama Mia before touring the world with Cliff Richard. Most notably, Tim fulfilled the role of Swing and Dance Captain in both the West End and touring productions of ‘Spamalot’ playing many of the Knights along the way.
Spamalot is a fabulous musical based on the film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, written by Eric Idle and John Du Prez. During the workshops, Performing Arts students worked on characterisation, comic timing, accents, execution of choreography and enjoyed learning how to bring the iconic script to life. It was also a fantastic opportunity for the students to hear first-hand what working on this wonderful production as a job, and in the industry itself, really amounted to.
Tim said,
“It was a real pleasure to come back to the College and both meet and work with students who have aspirations of a career in musical theatre. It was great to experience how receptive they were when hearing about the industry and the challenges that await them.”
Programme Manager Rachel Williams said,
“This has been a really wonderful and invaluable opportunity for our students and we are very thankful to Tim. Working with people from the industry enables the students to develop their skills and gives them an insight into the expectations of the industry.”
