BTC Active organised a Glitter Run on Monday 21 May in aid of the Diversity Day, to raise money for the local LGBT charity, 2BU.

The event ran across both the Bridgwater and Taunton campuses, introducing for the first year a slip and slide which was a huge success. We used a 110kg mixture of both powder paint and biodegradable glitter. The event helped us engage with those all around the College, and encouraged those who don’t normally keep active to participate. A total of 75 staff and students across both campuses attended.

The event was designed to encourage staff and students to take a moment, and have some fun with peers and colleagues during a busy time in the term with both exam and workload pressures. This year BTC Active aimed to make the run as inclusive and flexible for the participants. We even had a few individuals who wanted to set themselves a goal, beat their personal best or even incorporate a little competitiveness around our 3k or 5k course.

We raised an amazing £225 for our chosen charity 2BU.

If you’re interested in taking up running as a hobby, or feel you could benefit from running on a regular basis, think about joining a local running club within Somerset such as ‘Somerset Young Ladies Running Club’. It can be daunting running alone and a club can offer support to help you get to where you want to be.
