Staff and students from Bridgwater & Taunton College's Hair and Beauty department enjoyed a recent trip to Malaga, Spain as part of the Green Salon project.
The Green Salon project was set up in 2012 and aims to develop innovative ways of learning about sustainability and to promote sustainability in schools, colleges and businesses involved in the hairdressing sector throughout Europe.
In October, Curriculum Manager for Hair and Beauty, Lucinda Vaughan, Lecturer Karen May, and Hairdressing students Sophie Westlake, Ellie-Mae Davies & Melanie Sukevics travelled to Malaga to take part in the project. During the visit staff and students from partner intuitions undertook the next stages of the project, which was to develop a sustainability diagnostic scan and awareness tool that will be used in schools, colleges and businesses within the hairdressing industry across the EU. The trip also included a visit to L’Or√©al Green Academy in Madrid.
Lucinda Vaughan said,
“As a College we are so fortunate to be linked with such an important project. This trip has enabled our students to collaborate with a group of international students to discuss ideas, produce an industry video and visit Spanish salons. All the students were so professional and great ambassadors for their Colleges. We are all looking forward to the next developments that we are working on, and hosting the four countries in Bridgwater next June.”
Karen May, Lecturer in Hairdressing at Bridgwater & Taunton College added,
“It really is a privilege to be involved in the Green Salon Project; we were all made very welcome in Malaga. Our students were amazing and rose to the occasion, the outcome was a huge success making good friends and connections across Europe.”
